FAQ
- Frequently Asked Questions
Where are you located?
We do not currently have a
storefront or retail outlet. We are a "virtual" store -
basically running the business out of our home and the Hyannisport Brewing
Company. On average once a week orders are placed through our main
supplier - Crosby & Baker - and they are either shipped to us or we go pick
them up. Products are typically picked up by our customer at the Hyport Brewing Company. On rare occasions we will deliver or plan to
meet you to give you your order. We are happy to accommodate you within
reason. On even rarer occasions we will ship to you.
Can you get things not
listed in the Crosby & Baker Catalog?
The answer typically is YES -
but it really depends on what you are looking for. We've fulfilled some
pretty odd requests for customers - so it doesn't hurt to ask.
What
are your prices? We do not
yet have a way to provide pricing for the thousands of products available to us
(and therefore you) online. Orders need to be made either via phone, email
or in person. Pricing will be provided at that time. Can
you mail my stuff to me? We
can, but we would prefer not to. In most cases people swing by the brewery
to pick up orders or coordinate a drop off point when necessary. If we do
need to mail your products we will be passing all shipping costs onto you.
Ultimately we are a local business looking to do business locally. Do
you have inventory on hand? We
keep a small supply of the most popular items on hand, including those things
you might need in an emergency or at the last minute (i.e. caps, yeast, priming
sugar, muslin grain bags, corks, hydrometer, thermometers, tubing, bottle
fillers etc.) How
much does it cost to get into homebrewing or winemaking? For
either beer or wine an initial outlay of approx $125 to $150, including your
first batch of ingredients. This does not include a brew pot for
making beer or bottles. Most beer ingredient kits are approx $30 per
batch. Wine kits range from $50 to $100 per batch. Like
any hobby, there are plenty of specialty tools and toys to spend your money
on. How
much does a batch make? A
batch of beer is typically about 2 cases of 12 oz bottles. A
batch of wine is typically about 30 bottles. What
are the legalities of homebrewing? While
not many people ask this - the truth of the matter is that the federal government
has set a limit on the amount of beer you can brew in your home each year.
At last count it was 200 gallons per 2 adult household - which is approx 40
batches of beer. Do
I have to be 21 to make beer or wine? Yes-
it is illegal to make beer or wine if you are under 21.
